What is Financial Transition Planning?

Financial Transitions Planning grew out of a belief that financial advice can help people make the most of major life changes.

This approach gives advisors practical ways to help clients work through uncertainty, build on what’s already going well, and make decisions that reflect what matters most to them.

THE FOUR STAGES

A pattern to help make sense of change.

Whether a change is motivated by choice or chance, there’s a distinct pattern for how we humans internalize and respond to life-altering transitions.Though the timeline for the stages varies across people and events, the qualities and challenges of the stages are fairly consistent.

Anticipation

A change on the horizon

You become aware of a possible event, and the story you tell about your future begins to shift. When an event is sudden, this stage may be skipped.

WHAT CAN HELP

Prepare and manage expectations. A void commitments involving money you haven’t received.

Ending

Life as you know it changes

Parts of your familiar life have ended. Relationships, routines, and your sense of purpose may shift as you begin to take in what has changed.

WHAT CAN HELP

Slow down and allow your feelings. Focus on urgent decisions rather than rushing into every thing at once.

Passage

Finding your way through

You adapt, let go of old ideas, and explore new possibilities. Often the longest stage, Passage can take years as a new way of living takes shape.

WHAT CAN HELP

Be mindful of your feelings and possibilities. Supportive guides can help you navigate the uncertainty.

New Normal
