"The success of your sudden money event comes more from managing change than managing the money..."

Sudden Money is like a waterfall ...

The majority of time we move along our river of life gliding with the currents and adjusting to the numerous variations that come our way.  On the rare occasion, our river turns into a waterfall. It is our signal to step out to determine how best to deal with the waterfall before re-entering the river and moving on.

Sudden Money events are like the waterfalls that interrupt our normal flow of life.
Stepping out and taking time to assess where you are now, and what to do next, sounds logical. But what do you actually do once you step out?

My training as a certified financial planning practitioner did not give me the methods or tools to effectively manage the overlap of emotions and financial decisions that come with Sudden Money.  Advisors around the country shared this common experience with me as well. What seemed logical on paper usually did not work well in the real lives of their clients.

This is why in 1998, I wrote the book Sudden Money - Managing A Financial Windfall. Sudden Money

The book contains the first financial planning process specifically designed for managing a major inflow of money or a sudden decrease in personal finances.

In the year 2000, after the success of my ground-breaking book, a small group of some of the best planners and attorneys in the country opened up The Sudden Money® Institute.  We began to explore the then uncharted territory of money and life transitions.  We began to build a new body of knowledge to integrate the two sides of money - the human experience side and the fact and figures side.

Our Financial Transition Planning process is recognized by the financial planning profession, our national network of Sudden Money Advisors continues to deepen our knowledge, and we are finding new ways to deliver what we are learning to our advisors and the public.
